This document contains the following sections:
Upgrading from Beta 2
This section describes how to upgrade from the Beta 2 release of Kubi
Client.
Before You Begin
Before you upgrade to Beta 2, make sure you:
-
Back up your Kubi.pst file (Outlook) or spacename.nsf files (Notes). See step 1
of To Upgrade from Kubi Client Beta 2
for more details.
-
Log into Windows with a user account that belongs to the Administrators or
Power Users group. You won't be able to install Kubi if you don't have
Administrative permissions. To check your permissions, open Users and Passwords
in Control Panel.
System Requirements
One of the following Email applications:
-

You must receive your Email through one of the following mail servers:
-
Microsoft Exchange (5.5 or 2000)
-
Lotus Domino (R5 or R6)
-
A POP3 mail server
Your Email server must be externally visible so that Kubi Software can issue
your personal certificates.
One of the following operating systems:

Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6a
-
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 and the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack. The
High Encryption Pack is included in US/English versions of Windows 2000. You
can download it from Microsoft.
-

determining if your computer meets the System Requirements.
To Upgrade from Kubi Client Beta 2
-
Back up your Kubi.pst file or spacename.nsf files:
If you are using Kubi with Microsoft Outlook, back up your Kubi.pst file,
which is located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\login_name\Application Data\Kubi
Software\Kubi\<email_address>\kubi.pst
If you are using Kubi with Lotus Notes, back up all the .NSF files associated
with your Spaces. There is one .NSF file per Space and the naming convention is spacename.nsf.
For example, if you belong to a Space named Product Launch, back up the file Product
Launch.nsf. The .NSF files are located in:
C:\Lotus\Notes\Data\Kubi\
-
Go to http://www.kubisoftware.com.
-
Follow the Instructions on the Download page.
Post Upgrade Procedures
After you upgrade to Kubi Client V 1.0, read this section and perform the
procedures that apply to your installation.
Purchasing a License for Kubi Client
The easiest way to upgrade from Beta 2 is to download Kubi Client V1 with a
trial license. Then, purchase a full license. If you purchase a full license
before you download V1 - that is, while Beta 2 is still installed on your
computer - the license key message in your Inbox won't be processed. After you
install Kubi Client V1, your Inbox will contain an Email message with the file kubikey.txt
attached. Forward this message to yourself. Kubi automatically updates your
license.
Changing the View for Project Timelines
If your Space contained a Project Timeline in Beta, opening the Project Timeline
can cause Outlook to crash.
Don't open any Project Timeline folders until you follow these steps to change
the views on these folders:
-
Click the Project Timeline folder in the Outlook Folder list.
-
In the Outlook main menu, click View > Current View > Define Views.
You see the Define Views dialog box.
-
Click Events in the View Name list and then click the Apply View button.
Repeat this procedure for each Project Timeline folder in each Space you
participate in. You'll also need to perform this procedure on Project Timeline
folders in new Spaces you create or join.
Kubi Software is working on a utility to automatically update Project Timeline
views.
Updating the Kubi Home Outlook Shortcut
The Kubi Home Outlook shortcut isn't automatically updated when you upgrade from
Beta 2. You need to update the shortcut to preview items in your Inbox on the
Kubi Home page.
To update the Kubi Home shortcut:
-
Right-click Kubi Home in the Outlook Bar and click Remove from Outlook Bar in
the menu that appears.
-
Click Yes when Outlook asks if you're sure you want to remove the shortcut.
-
Close Outlook and then open it again.
Kubi automatically installs an updated Kubi Home shortcut.
To Uninstall Kubi Client
-
Open Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel
-
Click Kubi Client
in the Currently Installed Programs list.
-
Click Change.
-
In the Kubi Client InstallShield Wizard, click Next.
-
Click Remove and then click Next.
-
Follow the instructions in the Wizard to finish uninstalling Kubi.
-
(Optional) If you use Outlook, you might also want to:
-
Remove the Kubi shortcut from the Outlook Shortcuts list. Right-click the
shortcut and click Remove from Outlook Bar in the menu that appears.
-
Turn off the home page display for your Kubi folders if you need to access any
of the data. In the Folder List, right-click the Kubi folder that contains the
data to access and click Properties in the menu that appears. On the Home Page
tab, uncheck Show home page by default for this folder and then click OK.
If you uninstall Kubi without first withdrawing from the Spaces you participate
in, you'll continue to receive Email messages about the Spaces, such as Kubi
Collaboration messages. Withdraw from any spaces you participate in before you
uninstall Kubi.
What to do if Kubi is Disabled in Outlook
In Microsoft Outlook, Kubi Client functions as a COM add-in. COM add-ins are
programs that add extra functionality to Outlook. Sometimes COM add-ins can get
disabled - for example, if Outlook crashes - but it's easy to
re-enable them.
You can tell Kubi is disabled if the Kubi tool bar doesn't appear in your
Outlook window.
To re-enable Kubi on Outlook 2000:
-
On the Outlook Tools menu, click Options.
-
Click the Other tab.
-
Click Advanced Options, and then click COM-Add ins.
-
In the Add-Ins available list, click the Kubi Client for Outlook check box and
then click OK three times to save your settings and close the Options dialog
box.
Note: If you don't see Kubi in the Add-Ins available list, you'll need to go to
http://www.kubisoftware.com
reinstall Kubi.
-
Close Outlook and then start it again. Like all COM add-ins, Kubi isn't enabled
until you restart Outlook.
To re-enable Kubi on Outlook 2002:
-
On the Outlook Help menu, click About Microsoft Outlook.
-
Click the Disabled Items button.
-
Click Kubi Client for Outlook in the Disabled Items list and then click Enable.
-
Click OK to close the Help About dialog box.
Note: If Kubi doesn't work but it doesn't appear in the Disabled Items list,
you'll need to go to http://www.kubisoftware.com
to reinstall Kubi.
-
Close Outlook and then start it again. Like all COM add-ins, Kubi isn't enabled
until you restart Outlook.
Known Issues: All Platforms
If you create a Space on a computer that has lost its network connection to the
Exchange server, the Space never replicates to your second computer, even when
the first computer is back up on the network.
Workaround: Delete the Space and create it again when you're sure the
computer's network connection is working properly.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5KLRJW
If a participant using Kubi with Outlook creates a recurring appointment,
participants using Kubi on Notes only see the first instance of the series.
Workaround: If your Space includes both Notes and Outlook users, create
individual appointments for each occurrence of recurring appointments.
Issue Tracking Number: RINM-5JBLZ6
If you set up Outlook for Remote Mail or Notes for working off-line with a local
mail replica, you might not be able to use Kubi if your settings truncate or
disallow Email attachments.
Workaround: Either change your settings or wait until you're back in the office
to use Kubi again.
Issue Tracking Number: RINM-5JAL6Z
Known Issues: Kubi Client on Outlook
You can't create invitations to a Space when you're not connected to the
internet.
Workaround: Wait until you're online again and then create and send
invitations.
Issue Tracking Number: NDEA-5KUV2H
Topic replies you copy from a Discussion folder in one Space to a Discussion
folder in another Space retain their original indenting. This might make them
appear to be replies to different topics in the Space they are copied to.
Workaround: Copy the entire discussion thread.
Issue Tracking Number: SCLK-5L2T3L
If your operating system is Windows 98, you could
experience the following issues with folders:
-
The Team folder is not protected. Be careful not to delete a Space's Team
folder, as there is no way to get the folder back.
-
You can delete folders and items created by other participants, but Kubi won't
replicate your changes to other Participants' computers.
-
If you move a Space to the Deleted Items folder, Kubi won't automatically
withdraw you from the Space. Make sure you withdraw from a Space before you
remove it from your computer.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5KES49
If your computer has more than one profile and you password-protect the Personal
Folder (outlook.pst) for one of the profiles, you can't access your Kubi
Spaces.
Workaround: Remove the password from outlook.pst and re-start Outlook.
Issue Tracking Number: NDEA-5KUQM3
If your Email client is Outlook 2000, double-clicking the
Kubi Home shortcut or any folder in a Space (in the Outlook Folder List) turns
off the display of the Kubi home page. This is not an issue with Kubi Client;
this is simply how Outlook 2000 functions.
Workaround: To turn the display of the Kubi home page back on:
-
In the Folder List, right-click the Kubi Home folder and click Properties in
the menu that appears.
-
On the Home Page tab, click Show home page by default for this folder then
click OK.
Issue Tracking Number: KNIA-5KT4GC
Marking a large selection of items as read or unread can cause read items to be
marked unread.
Issue Tracking Number: RJON-5KMQK6
If Kubi is installed on a computer where there are
multiple profiles and one of the profiles uses a POP3 Email server, when you
use that profile, Kubi can't determine which Email address to use and so
displays a dialog box where you pick the appropriate address. If you
accidentally pick the wrong address, you won't be able to access your Spaces.
Workaround: Follow these steps to remove the incorrect Email address from the
Registry:
-
Close Outlook.
-
Click Start, and then click Run.
-
Type Regedit and then click OK.
-
In the Registry list, expand each folder as follows: My Computer >
HKEY_CURRENT_USERS > Software > Kubi Software > Kubi > UserInfo
-
Delete the Outlook key.
-
Close the Registry Editor.
-
Start Outlook again.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5JGUT4
Kubi Client displays your actual Outlook Inbox on the Kubi
Spaces home page. If you want, you can turn this feature off and display the
same home page you saw in Beta I.
Workaround: Follow these steps to display the Beta I home page:
-
In the Folder List, right-click the Kubi Home folder and click Properties in
the menu that appears.
-
On the Home Page tab, remove inbox from the end of the home page address so
that the page name is kubi_home.html and then click OK. Do not change the path.
Issue Tracking Number: CDOE-5KDT9L
If your mail server crashes and you can no longer access your Spaces, close and
restart Outlook once you know your server is up and running again. Your Spaces
will be available approximately 60 seconds after you restart Outlook.
Issue Tracking Number: RINM-5KCVPD
If you try to sort tasks in your Space's Tasks folder by clicking on the
Categories column heading, Kubi displays the message, "You cannot sort by this
field."
Workaround: In your Space's Tasks folder, select Category in the Display
drop-down list.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5KHTBF
Installing the Microsoft XML (MSXML) Parser 4.0 can cause display problems in
Kubi. These problems don't occur when the parser is installed as part of
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5HKPHB
If Outlook creates your Mail Items in RTF format, other participants won't be
able to see images you embed in items you create in your Space.
Workaround: In Outlook, choose Tools - Options to display the Options dialog
box. On the Mail Format tab, change the mail format to HTML.
Issue Tracking Number: CDOE-5HNQGZ
Don't use the Outlook Actions menu to create new items in your Space. Items
created with the Actions menu won't appear in the Space. They'll appear in your
personal folders.
Workaround: Use the buttons in the Kubi interface to add items. For example, to
add a new task to your Space, open the Task folder and click New Task. Don't
choose Action - New Task from the Outlook menu.
Issue Tracking Number: RJON-5FSS3F
When you create a task in a Space, don't use the Assign Task button on the task
form to assign the task. Instead, save the task without assigning it and then
type the name of the participant you want to assign it to in the Tasks folder's
Assigned To column.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5JPPVS
If, while Kubi is installed, you switch from mail profile that uses an Exchange
server to a profile that uses a POP3 server, you won't be able to access your
Spaces.
Workaround: Uninstall Kubi before you change mail profiles.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5JCPNY
If your mail server is a POP3 server, some client-side Outlook rules might cause
problems with Kubi. This is because those rules are executed before Kubi gets a
chance to detect any incoming Kubi Messages, and therefore can't process the
messages. For example, suppose you have a rule that moves all incoming Email
messages from info kubisoftware.com out of your Inbox and into a separate
folder. If info kubisoftware.com is a participant in a Space you belong to,
your rule moves all messages from info kubisoftware.com, including Kubi
Collaboration messages.
Workaround: Delete or change your client-side rule.
Issue Tracking Number: CDOE-5JFSKM
Don't use Outlook to browse the Web when Kubi is installed on your computer.
Doing so results in Internet Explorer script errors.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5JBQVB
If you are using Outlook 2000, the Show time as field in Project Timelines is
not replicated by Kubi, and so the time is always shown as busy, even if you
choose another option.
Issue Tracking Number: WGUO-5GZT9A
If your Exchange server is experiencing problems, you'll see unexpected behavior
in Kubi.
Issue Tracking Number: BNKI-5JETFP
Known Issues: Kubi Client on Notes
Multiple Notes location files with the same name cause errors when you try to
use Kubi.
Workaround: Make sure your location files have unique names.
Issue Tracking Number: IGHS-5KYU2L
You can delete the All Documents and Trash views of a Space. Deleting a view
doesn't remove any data, it just removes the view.
Workaround: Refresh the database design for the Space: Choose File >
Database > Refresh Design.
Issue Tracking Number: DPLR-5KYSG5
Copying your personal contacts to a Contacts folder in a Space can cause
unexpected results.
Workaround: Create new contacts in your Space rather than copying from your
personal contacts.
Issue Tracking Number: RINM-5L7MFF
The Kubi Home list displays the names of up to 60 Spaces. If you participate in
more than 60 Spaces, you'll only see the first 60 displayed in this list.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5KZM4D
If you are running Notes R6 and Windows 98, the Kubi Help button isn't visible.
Workaround: To open the Kubi Client Help, double-click the file
//Program Files/Kubi/Help/KubiClientNotes.CHM.
Issue Tracking Number: NOTS-5KDV9P
If both Notes R5 and Notes R6 are installed on your
computer, Kubi runs on the most recently installed version, most likely R6.
Workaround: To use Kubi with Notes R5, update these Registry settings before
you install Kubi Client:
-
Click Start, and then click Run.
-
Type Regedit and then click OK.
-
In the Registry list, expand each folder as follows:
My Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Lotus
-
Click the Notes folder.
-
In the right-hand pane, double click the Path value.
-
In the Value data box, type the path to your Notes R5 directory (typically
c:\Lotus\Notes\) and then click OK.
-
In the right-hand pane, double click the DataPath value.
-
In the Value data box, type the path to your Notes R5 data directory (typically
c:\Lotus\Notes\Data\) and then click OK.
-
Close the Registry Editor.
