Kubi Software Expands Collaborative Email Solutions with the Introduction of Kubi Server

Centralizes Storage and Management of Collaborative Workspaces; Extends Availability of Kubi Client

LINCOLN, Mass. - June 23, 2003 - Kubi Software Inc. today broadened the company's Collaborative Email solutions - which combine the power of collaborative software with the familiarity and ease of use of Email - by announcing Kubi Server. Kubi Server enables organizations with multiple Kubi Client workspaces to store and manage project data centrally, thereby consolidating business-critical corporate knowledge separately from burgeoning Email stores (messaging servers or individual inboxes). The announcement that Kubi Server is in Beta evaluation follows closely on the general availability of Kubi Client.

Kubi Software's approach provides structured team spaces for individuals and teams to collaborate spontaneously and securely within familiar Microsoft® Outlook® or IBM Lotus Notes Email clients. The company's product offerings are now optimized to support collaboration either for workgroups or enterprises. For individuals and workgroups, Kubi Client makes it easy to spontaneously create and share workspaces with internal and external partners, without leaving the familiar Email environment. Little training and no involvement from IT is required. For enterprises, Kubi Server offers IT the ability to synchronize, replicate, store and manage Kubi workspaces from a central location, while still extending the benefits of Kubi Client to users. Kubi Client and Kubi Server will be sold and licensed separately.

"Since our launch at DEMO 2003 in February, the Kubi team has continued to focus on eliminating the traditional barriers to collaboration," said Julio Estrada, Kubi Software's founder and CEO. "With our user-centric approach to collaboration, we have helped our customers to easily and quickly experience the power of Collaborative Email. Kubi Server will enable IT to better consolidate and capture important knowledge, without impeding the ability of users to spontaneously collaborate. As we extend our product family, our approach remains consistent - to transform Email into a powerful collaborative application, and to keep users engaged and active in Kubi workspaces by making collaboration part of their familiar Email environment."

Installed on an existing messaging server or on a dedicated server (Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino), Kubi Server can support hundreds of users' sharing a centrally stored Kubi Space. Kubi Server also makes it easy for IT to administer the use of Kubi:

  • Users can be enrolled from the corporate directory;
  • Setup is simple and secure, as a single certificate stored on Kubi Server governs all Kubi Clients;
  • Configuration is streamlined, as each Kubi Client automatically detects Kubi Server; and
  • Kubi Server automatically tracks licenses and usage of Kubi Client.

Capitalizing on capabilities that are inherent within Exchange and Domino servers, Kubi Server extends the availability of Kubi Spaces. Browser-based access to Kubi workspaces is provided for remote or traveling users. Kubi Server also provides an "always on" copy of a Kubi workspace, so that Kubi Client users can access up-to-date project information, regardless of who is online.

Protecting customer investments in technology, Kubi Server uses proven, industry-standard messaging platforms as well as their associated data stores, directory services, and security mechanisms. Kubi Server supports the most popular current and future versions of Microsoft Outlook and Exchange, and IBM Lotus Notes and Domino.

Kubi Server will be generally available in Q3 2003.

System Requirements

Kubi Server supports Microsoft Exchange 5.5, 2000, and 2003 (when the latter becomes available), and IBM Lotus Domino 5 or 6. Kubi Server runs on Windows NT and Windows 2000 servers (Windows 2003 support is planned), on a dedicated or existing messaging server. Kubi Server requires Kubi Client (upgraded for Kubi Server) or a Web browser for server access.
